How to make rent receipts for HRA
- Enter your name, your landlord's name and the address of the house you rent.
- Choose the months. For a full financial year, pick April to March.
- Press Save as PDF / Print. Each page holds three receipts. Ask your landlord to sign every receipt (and add a revenue stamp if you paid in cash).
- Give the signed receipts, or a scan, to your employer's HR or payroll team.
When is the landlord's PAN needed?
Employers ask for the landlord's PAN when the yearly rent is more than ₹1,00,000 (more than about ₹8,333 a month). If the landlord has no PAN, they usually need to give a signed declaration instead.
Do I need a revenue stamp?
A ₹1 revenue stamp is generally needed on a receipt for a cash payment above ₹5,000. Payments by bank transfer, UPI or cheque usually don't need one, but some employers still ask. Tick the box to leave space for it.
Can I claim HRA under the new tax regime?
HRA exemption is available only under the old tax regime. If you have chosen the new regime, your employer may not need these receipts.
