How the fund is used after you retire
How the retirement calculator works
- Expenses at retirement. Today's monthly expenses grow with inflation until you retire.
- Fund needed. The fund must pay those expenses every year until the age you plan for, with the expense rising with inflation each year while the balance earns the after-retirement return.
- Monthly SIP. Your current savings are grown to retirement, and the rest of the gap is turned into a monthly SIP using the before-retirement return.
Why is the number so large?
Thirty years of inflation can make ₹40,000 of expenses today more than ₹2 lakh a month. The fund also has to last for 20 years or more. Starting early is what makes it reachable.
Does this include EPF, NPS or pension?
Add your current EPF, NPS and other retirement savings to "savings so far". If you will get a pension, lower the monthly expenses by that amount.
