How to password-protect a PDF

  1. Choose your PDF.
  2. Type a password twice and choose what people may do after opening it.
  3. Press Protect PDF. Open the new file once to check the password works before you delete the original.
How strong is the protection?

The file is encrypted with 128-bit AES, which every common PDF reader supports. A long password with letters and numbers is much harder to guess than a date of birth.

Do print and copy limits always work?

Most readers respect them, but some apps ignore them. Only the open password truly keeps people out.
