How the plan builds up
How the goal planner works
- Future cost. Today's cost × (1 + cost rise)ʸᵉᵃʳˢ. College fees in India have often risen faster than general inflation, so 8–10% is a common planning figure.
- What you have. Your existing savings are grown at the expected return and taken away from the future cost.
- Monthly SIP. The gap is divided by what ₹1 a month grows to over the same time. That gives the SIP needed.
What if the SIP is too high for me?
Start with what you can, and raise it every year. Use the step-up field in the SIP calculator to see how a smaller SIP that grows each year can reach the same goal.
Should I use the same return for a short goal?
For goals less than about 5 years away, many people move to safer options like FDs or debt funds. Use a lower return, such as 6–7%, for those.
