How stacked discounts work
Final price = MRP × (1 − d₁ ÷ 100) × (1 − d₂ ÷ 100) − flat
The extra discount is taken off the already-reduced price, not the MRP. So 40% + 10% is a 46% discount, not 50%: ₹1,000 becomes ₹600, and 10% off ₹600 is ₹540.
Discount % = (Original − Sale) ÷ Original × 100
Is the discount taken before or after GST?
In shops in India, the MRP and sale price already include GST. For a business bill, GST is worked out on the price after discount. Try the GST calculator for that.
Where is this used in maths?
Profit, loss and discount chapters in Class 7 and Class 8 use exactly these formulas. Successive discounts are a common exam question.
