What is Base64?

Base64 writes any data, even pictures and files, using only 64 safe characters (A–Z, a–z, 0–9, + and /). It's used to put images directly in HTML or CSS, send attachments in email, and pass data in JSON or URLs. The result is about a third bigger than the original.

Is Base64 encryption?

No. Anyone can decode it. Never use Base64 to hide passwords or private data.

What is URL-safe Base64?

It swaps + for - and / for _, and drops the = padding, so the text can go in a web address or file name. JWT tokens use it.

The decoded text looks like gibberish.

The Base64 probably holds a file (like an image or PDF), not text. Paste it into Base64 → File instead.
