Each correct answer earns one mark. Your raw score out of 40 is converted to a band from 1 to 9. General Training needs more correct answers than Academic for the same band. For example, a band 6 needs about 23 correct answers in Academic and about 30 in General Training.
How to use these tests
- Take Test 1 in timed mode to see where you stand. Aim for about 20 minutes per passage or section.
- For True / False / Not Given, choose FALSE only when the text says the opposite. If the text simply doesn't say, the answer is NOT GIVEN.
- For gap-fill questions, copy the words from the text and keep to the word limit. A correct word spelled wrongly gets no mark.
- Read every explanation, then keep a list of the words and phrases you didn't know.
Always check the format and fees on the official IELTS website before you book.
